Goals:
To develop a viable and sustainable on-land cultivation system for Schizymenia jonssonii, a valuable edible algae, in controlled conditions in drill-hole seawater.
To determine the algae's ideal growth conditions by experimenting with temperature, light, currents, nutrients and density.
Role in project
Equipment development: container size, shape and materials, illumination, aeration, fluid dynamics, and algae distribution in fluid.
