Coatings for heat exchangers in ORC geothermal power plants.

geohex-thumbnail-416px.jpg

The aim of the GeoHex project is to develop coatings tailored for heat exchangers in Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) geothermal power plants. Heat exchangers are extremely important parts of ORC systems. They transfer the heat energy from the geothermal fluid to the organic fluid which flows in a closed loop within the system and turns the turbines of the power plant.Various types of coatings with different properties will be developed and tested throughout the course of the project. These properties are for example the increase of heat transfer rate, corrosion and scaling resistance and better energy efficiency for boiling and condensation.

Role in project

Design of a test rig for amorphous coatings in geothermal environment.

Heat transfer efficiency and corrosion testing of coatings in single-phase heat exchangers.

Investigation of the manufacturing and upscaling of GeoHex developed materials.
