Visit from Iceland's Minister of Science, Industry and Innovation

IceTec was honored with a visit from Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, the Minister of Science, Industry and Innovation on Friday, 25 March 2022.

The Minister came by to get acquinted with the institute's facilities and the startups on premise. Some of these companies included DTE, Atmonia, IceWind og Arctus Aluminium, Álvit og Gerosion.



Arctus Aluminum's Jón Hjaltalín Magnússon (pictured left) discussed their collaboration with IceTec and Trimet to develop an ecofriendly aluminum smelting process. Their talk concluded with Arctus handing Áslaug and her colleagues aluminum bar number 8 from their innovative smelting process.


Ragnar Sigurðsson introduced the Minister to IceTec's civil engineering equipment including the climate testing chamber which is used to evaluate windows' resistance to harsh weather conditions.

DTE's Kristján Leósson and Ásdís Virk Sigtryggsdóttir presented their automated molten aluminum testing equipment.

Icewind's Sæþór Ásgeirsson showed Áslaug their harsh weather resistant wind turbines which are designed to speed up energy exchange in remote locations.

Atmonia's Helga Dögg Flosadóttir introduced the Minister to their innovative ammonia production process.

The day concluded with the Minister chatting and enjoying some refreshments with IceTec's employees and the startups' representatives.
